Robert Alwyn Hughes

" Hughes' work is a striking example of the ability to merge ideas and imagery from a variety of sources," these are disruptive and exciting times" aptly sums up the most recent work. The subject matter and narrative belongs to the past, but the imagery to the present day.
Robert Alwyn Hughes provides a visual narrative through which he presents his own contemporary interpretation. As with all of his work the pieces are bold and often disquieting and create a fascinating melting pot, raising the question of how these varying cultural contexts at once question and inform each other. A hybrid fusion of traditional and contemporary material and ethereal, symbolic and real demontrates the power of the images to speak in ways which are fresh, bold and challenging".
Robert Alwyn Hughes was born, Dowlais Top, Dowlais. He studied at Newport College of Art, Leicester College of Art, and the Royal College of Art. On leaving the RCA he took up the post of lecturer in Fine Art progressing through his career to become Head of Photo Studies at Cheltenham College of Art, Cheltenham. He retired in 1990. He developed an interest in IT communication systems and formed the Web design team 'Contact' 1992-99. He has continued to paint and exhibit work until the present day.
He also founded and initiated :
'WalesModern' e-Newsletter.
