"When I make a painting it means embarking on an exciting adventure with exhilarating moments of insight preceded by moments of doubt, uncertainty and confusion, even despair. There is no one way of doing things, and intentions, fired by spirit and ideas find their own techniques. The result is a learning process and the responsibility is solitary and personal. Painting is a creative challenge and needs to be expansive. I believe it must investigate the past, challenge the present and prepare for the future".

Peter Spriggs was born in Cardiff. He first studied Fine Art at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, and then progressed to the Royal College of Art 1986-88. He worked in a studio in Bow, London, and taught in various Adult Education Centres before returning to Wales as a Lecturer in Fine Art at Coleg Sir Gar/Carmarthenshire College. In 1997 he travelled to Sweden with GOYA (Generating Opportunities for Young Artists). A recipient of several awards from the Arts Council of Wales, a Career Development Grant recently took him to Barcelona to study Catalonian Art, and a Creative Wales Award to Ontario, Canada. A British Council award allowed him to return to Canada as a visiting lecturer at various universities. Recent exhibitions include Welsh Painting for the 21st Century at the Mall Galleries, London; Luminaries at Aberystwyth Arts Centre and Oriel Mostyn, Llandudno: 'A Propos Ceri Richards' at the National Museum and Gallery of Wales, Cardiff. His work has been exhibited in Wales, London and Europe. Works are included in many private collections and the National Library of Wales has a number of his works on paper.
